• Eric’s heart had been racing when he knocked at the door separating them. He entered the room at the sound of her voice. He took one look at her and wondered what he had done to deserve the good Lord’s grace in placing her before him. She was bathed in candlelight. The gown she wore may as well have been non existent. He could she everything beneath it, but some how that thin layer of material made it all the more erotic, and she was every bit as perfect as he knew she would be.

Before dawn, he awoke, still in her bed, their legs entwined, her head and one small hand resting on his chest. He had not meant to fall asleep. Eric had been with many women, how had this inexperienced wisp of girl brought him his most earth shattering sexual experience. He needed to leave before she awoke, he needed to think, and she clouded his mind. Eric did not want to give her a false impression of his feelings towards her. He already had ground to recover on that accord. He had taken her a second time during the night and she had made love to him as though her every breath depended on his touch, and he was afraid, his love. She had been a virgin, he was the first to ever touch her, and he would be the last. She belonged to him. She had drawn him in so completely he feared she had taken his intensity for something more. Eva had not spoken of love, but Eric could feel it in every kiss, every touch, and every look they shared. He had warned her. He should have anticipated this, she was young, and she was gently raised. He would be forced now to pull back from her for a while until she understood. Eric slid from the bed without awaking her, took one last look at the unbelievable beauty now belonging to him in every way, then left the room. He called for a bath early, started to write his new wife a note explaining he was needed in Leeds for a few days, but thought better of it. She would understand her role in his life better if he let Mary inform her of his whereabouts. Leaving her for business, business that could have been postponed, on the day after their marriage, would be best for both of them. Next time their lovemaking would be about passion and mutual satisfaction only, not endearment and possession. He would not fall into the same trap his father did. Eva was not the same woman as his mother, she would love him in return with every ounce of her being, which was worse, she would be so easy to love. If he was not careful, he would loose himself completely to her and when he did, when she realized she would destroy him. He resisted the urge to look in on her one last time before he left. He searched out Mary. “I have business I need to attend to in Leeds. I will be gone a couple of days, please inform Eva when she wakes.”

As he turned to walk away, he saw the censure on Mary’s face, but he ignored her.
